Expanding Transformative Partnerships for a better Africa: ARIN Team hosts the Executive Director of the UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology (UKCEH)- Prof. Mark Bailey and the Deputy Director of Science-Prof. Alan Jenkins.
On 9th March 2022, The Africa Research and Impact Network (ARIN) team led by the Convener Dr. Joanes Atela hosted the Executive Director of the UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology (UKCEH) Professor Mark Bailey, and the Deputy Director of Science at UKCEH Prof. Alan Jenkins. The meeting aimed at exploring areas of partnership between ARIN and UKCEH.
With a long history of investigation, monitoring, and modelling environmental change, UKCEH research work extends from molecular biology to global climate modelling across the world. UKCEH has ongoing activities across Africa and are currently developing an initiative targeting Africa, more specifically around Environmental resources and Net zero campaign in line with the global climate change ambitions.
During the meeting, Dr. Atela shared insights on ARIN’s journey of providing an impact platform that brings together a network of scholars and policy makers across Africa for the purpose of fostering connection and peer learning and experiences in helping research and donor/development organizations understand and pursue impact pathways.
UKCEH and ARIN agreed to build on potential linkages to bolster their efforts on translating research to impact. The two will be working together to scale up some of the best practices emerging in the research areas around air quality, climate resilience, the annual ARIN summer school, policy support ( i.e. policy-research linkage; translation of research outputs into evidence for policy and practice).
