Background

The challenges facing Africa’s research systems are complex. There are no straight fixes to them. Instead, multiple pathways and interpretations exist. But how can we appreciate this multiplicity of options and ensure that no one is left behind in the efforts to transform the continent’s research systems? This edition will focus on unpacking various ways in which challenges to research systems can be opened up and tackled in a more inclusive fashion. The session will build on the STEPS Centre Pathways approach around broadening out and closing down on societal challenges.
