Caxton Gitonga Kaua is an environmental and natural resources governance and management, and climate resilience expert focused on the resilience and sustainability of ecosystems and communities. He has extensive experience and expertise in conceptualizing, planning and managing development and environmental projects and programs, ensuring flexible responses which adapt to the needs of local people in complex, volatile environments. Caxton possesses vast knowledge of the political economy and socioecological context of Africa’s landscape and has undertaken extensive research on environmental and development issues.

Caxton worked at the Food and Agriculture and Organization of the United Nations where he managed land and natural resources management and governance programs. He also worked at the Laikipia Nature Conservancy where he led sustainable management of the conservancy and community development projects, and at the Greenbelt Movement where he designed, planned and implemented community based conservation and livelihoods improvement projects. In addition, Caxton worked as a consultant at Ecomove Services Limited where he addressed development, environmental and projects management issues for private and public sector clients.

He worked as the Regional Coordinator of the Eastern African Secretariat of the African Union led Ecological Organic Agriculture Initiative (EOAI) where he coordinated the initiatives activities in the Eastern Africa region. He is currently a program manager at Grassroots Sustainability Solutions an initiative that aims to build the resilience and sustainability of ecosystems and communities in Africa.

He studied a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science at Egerton University and a Master’s Degree in Environmental Planning and Management at the University of Nairobi. Moreover, he studied and graduated with a PhD. Degree in Environmental Governance and Management at the University of Nairobi.
