Dr Edward Mboyonga



Dr. Edward Mboyonga is a postdoctoral research fellow in the Higher Education and Human Development (HEHD) research group at the Centre for Development Support (CDS), the University of the Free State, South Africa. He earned his PhD in Development Studies from the same university. Additionally, he holds a master’s degree in education (awarded with distinction) from Trinity College, the University of Dublin, Ireland, as well as a bachelor’s degree in education and history from the University of Zambia. In 2019, Edward was a Fulbright Teaching Excellence and Achievement (TEA) Fellow at Claremont Graduate University in California, USA. In May 2023, he was awarded the European Union Erasmus+ Staff Teaching Mobility Programme at the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV) in Valencia, Spain. His research focuses on the political economy of human development in the Sub-Saharan African context. He explores issues related to access and equity, mobility and aspirations, capability approaches, sustainable development, planetary justice, environmental education, Pan-Africanism, gender issues, and decolonization. His latest project focuses on the political economy of carbon markets in rural Eastern Zambia.
