Eunice Wamuyu Githae is an associate professor and a researcher in dryland ecology at Chuka University, Kenya. She has served as the Chair of the Department of Biological Sciences and acted as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor in charge of Administration, Finance, Planning and Development. She holds a PhD in Dryland Resource Management (University of Nairobi, Kenya) and a Postgraduate Diploma in Environmental Management (Open University, England). She has been a visiting fellow at the Stellenbosch Institute for Advanced Study (STIAS) in South Africa under the Iso Lomso Fellowship Programme, where she carried out a research project on the impacts of invasive cactus on rural livelihoods. Before joining Chuka University, Eunice worked as a research assistant at the Kenya Forestry Research Institute (KEFRI) under the European Union (EU)-funded projects on sustainable agroforestry systems and innovative management of trees to improve resource productivity in sub-Saharan Africa. She has been trained in several areas, including climate change adaptation, food security and natural resource management, environmental monitoring and protection, and translating science into policy and practice. Her research has been published in numerous peer-reviewed journals and has earned several prestigious awards and fellowships, including the Africa-wide Women in Science Award (5th position) by CTA/FARA/IFS/ANAFE/RUFORUM/NPCA/AGRA. Eunice is also a frequent keynote speaker at international symposiums and has participated in various policy forums to inform agricultural and food security policies in Kenya. She is a member of the British Ecological Society (BES) and believes in strong participation of multiple stakeholders at all levels to strengthen dryland ecosystem services and improve rural livelihoods.
